Soraya Martins (Belo Horizonte/MG) + Vanessa Setsuko (Itacaré/BA)
Theater artists Soraya Martins (BH) and Vanessa Setsuko (BA/SP) will talk about theater based on the relationship they establish with their respective territories and ways of thinking and doing theater. Vanessa brings her engagement in the fight for cultural-educational public policies in Itacaré. Soraya brings her experiences and articulations through the aquilombamento projects in which she participates, in which the black artist’s body is considered politically and aesthetically. It will be a meeting about theater, articulations and fables about futures.

Soraya Martins
Soraya Martins, actress, theater critic and independent curator. She is the author of the book Teatralidades-Aquilombamento: Várias formas de pensar-ser-estar em cena e no mundo (Javali, 2023). She is currently part of the curatorial team of the Festival Internacional de Teatro de Belo Horizonte – FIT-BH2024 and of the Frente Criativa e Curatorial do Dona Ruth: Festival de Teatro Negro de São Paulo, in addition to having curated the Festival Internacional de Artes Cênicas da Bahia – FIAC (2019 to 2022) and the Festival Internacional de Teatro de Belo Horizonte – FIT-BH2018. Post-doctorate in Literature, Other Arts and Media (UFMG). PhD in Portuguese Language Literature and Master in Literary Studies. Actress graduated from the Teatro Universitário da UFMG. She studied Theater Semiology at the Dipartimento di Musica e Spettacolo dell’Università di Bologna, Italy. She works as an actress and researcher of Brazilian theatricalities. She writes theater reviews for both the segundaPRETA project and for the Horizonte da Cena website and for festivals. Her resume includes work with several theater groups, including the Grupo espanca!
Vanessa Setsuko
Vanessa Setsuko is an economist with a degree from PUC-SP, specializing in Cultural Management from UESC, and is currently studying for a degree in visual arts at Estácio and theater at UFBA. She is an actress, cultural producer, and volunteer in the theater workshop at the Educa Mais Bahia Project at Colégio Estadual Aurelino Leal (CEAL) in Itacaré-BA, the same school where she taught Reda for 6 years, when she created the Festival de Teatro Estudantil, which is now in its third edition. She also teaches theater, arts, and environmental education classes for children at the NGO ETIV, located in the Passagem neighborhood of Itacaré. She is a producer of the Projeto Na Sala, which she runs together with the creator and artist Laiô, a space for musicians to perform and sing their compositions and their music, which is now in its 13th edition. In 2017, she was elected alternate for the Conselho Municipal de Políticas Culturais de Itacaré, being elected as a member to represent the segment of artistic expressions, becoming President of the Council in the 2021-2023 term.
